≈ 295 km · about 4 h by car · no train · flights limited
To get between Hurghada and Luxor one way with luggage, a private car is the simplest option: about four hours door to door, at the time you choose. Go Bus is the budget choice at a fraction of the price, but it runs from a bus station, at its own times, and delays are common. A seat on a Luxor day tour that drops you in Luxor sits in between, and you see the sights on the way. There is no train, and flights are rare.

Hiring a car and driver
Book a private transfer for a family, for a Nile cruise check-in, or when you arrive at Hurghada airport and want to go straight to Luxor. A car with a driver takes about four hours, stops when you ask, and the driver carries the bags. The price is per car or per person depending on the operator. Read which: for one person, "from" prices per person can look cheap, and for four people a per-car price usually works out better.
Watch the extras. Transfers are priced from central Hurghada. Hotels in Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and Soma Bay cost more, Safaga more again, and some operators also charge extra for hotels on Luxor's West Bank. If you have more than two big suitcases, say so after booking so they send a bigger car.
Go Bus
Go Bus runs the scheduled coach service between Hurghada and Luxor, in several classes (Super Go, Deluxe Plus, Elite, Business). The timetable says just under four hours. Recent traveller reports talk about delays of one to two hours, a bus cancelled on the morning of travel, and resellers printing a pickup address that is not the actual departure point. Travellers report that buses leave from the Go Bus terminal on El Nasr Street in El Dahar, whatever the ticket says. Either way it is not your hotel, so add a taxi at each end.
It is fine for backpackers and people without a fixed check-in time. It is a poor choice when you have a cruise boarding time or an evening flight to catch on the same day.
A seat on a day tour, one way
This is the option few people know about. Some Luxor day-tour operators will take you to Luxor with the group, run the full sightseeing programme, and leave you at your Luxor hotel instead of driving you back, for a small luggage fee. You get the Valley of the Kings and Karnak on the same day as the move. Ask before booking, because not every operator agrees. If your bags stay in the vehicle during the sightseeing, keep valuables with you.
In the other direction, from Luxor to Hurghada, a private car or the bus is the usual choice.
Flights and trains
There is no train line to Hurghada. Air Cairo appears on flight-schedule sites with a small turboprop service between Hurghada and Luxor on some days. We could not confirm it on the airline's site, so treat it as possible but not something to plan around. With connections via Cairo, flying takes longer than the road.
Which to pick
Family with luggage, or a cruise check-in that day: private car.
Solo traveller on a budget with a flexible day: Go Bus.
You want to see Luxor's sights on the way and stay there: a day tour with a one-way drop-off.
