Who you are actually booking with
Every GetYourGuide listing in Hurghada has a line under the title that reads "Activity provider". That's the company running your trip: a quad base near Makadi, a boat company at the marina, a Cairo operator that runs the Luxor bus. GetYourGuide is its commercial agent. In its terms, your contract is with the supplier, GetYourGuide takes the payment on the supplier's behalf and earns a commission, and it handles customer service and refunds.
That has two practical consequences:
- The same supplier often sells the same trip elsewhere, sometimes under the same title. A desert stargazing trip by jeep and a Cairo trip for first-time visitors, for example, appear with identical titles on GetYourGuide and Viator. Same jeep, same camp, different checkout.
- Quality follows the supplier, not the platform. Two "Orange Bay" listings can be very different days. Compare the provider names, the boat type, the hours and the inclusions, not just the headline.
What it carries in Hurghada
In the feeds we pull for this site, GetYourGuide has more Hurghada listings than Headout and Tiqets together. It covers every standard trip and is the only one of our three partners with Mahmya Island, the Christian monasteries of St Anthony and St Paul, Nile cruises from Aswan or Luxor, fishing boats, Abu Simbel and most two-day Luxor and Cairo trips. Cairo and Luxor trips from Hurghada sometimes sit under GetYourGuide's Cairo or Giza pages rather than Hurghada, so search "from Hurghada" if a trip seems missing.
Where it's weaker: in our checks, Headout often had the lower price on the classic island boats and on attraction tickets, and it has more spa and water-park listings. Our trip pages show both, side by side.
Cancellation, payment and pay later
- Default cancellation: full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before the start; nothing within 24 hours or for a no-show. Individual listings can set different rules, and the listing wins, so read the line on the page.
- How to cancel: through the GetYourGuide app or website. Telling the guide on WhatsApp isn't a cancellation.
- Refunds go back to your original payment method, or as a GetYourGuide gift card if you choose that.
- Reserve now, pay later: on listings that offer it, you book with a credit card valid until the activity date, and GetYourGuide charges you 72 hours before the start.
- Supplier cancellations: GetYourGuide's terms allow suppliers to cancel for bad weather and similar reasons outside their control, for example when the port is closed for wind. If that happens, contact customer service about a refund or a new date.
- Price matching: GetYourGuide offers to refund the difference if you find the same activity cheaper online, under conditions listed in its terms.
Pickup in practice
Hurghada listings usually include hotel pickup within Hurghada town and charge extra, or offer a separate option, for Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay and Safaga. Choose the option that matches your hotel zone at checkout; picking the cheaper "Hurghada" option when you're in Soma Bay leads to an awkward morning.
The pickup time isn't on the voucher for most trips. Suppliers send it the day before, by WhatsApp or email, sometimes not until late evening. GetYourGuide has a chat with the supplier inside the app, which helps if your WhatsApp number was mistyped.
Reading the reviews
Reviews come from people who booked the activity, and each shows a date and the reviewer's country. Some habits help:
- Sort by date. A listing with years of praise can change supplier staff or boats. GetYourGuide itself notes that an activity may have changed since a review was written.
- Read the one- and two-star reviews for patterns: late pickups, shorter driving time than advertised, surprise cash charges on the day.
- Check the option. A review of the private speedboat says nothing about the shared big boat on the same page.
- Don't treat the ranking as a quality score. GetYourGuide says its ranking includes the revenue generated, including the commission suppliers pay, alongside ratings and popularity.
Customer service and what it can't do
GetYourGuide says it typically answers within 24 hours and at the latest within 48, by chat, phone or email. It can rebook you, refund you under the listing's rules and chase a supplier. It doesn't run the trip, employ the guides or check the safety of boats and quads, as its own terms say, and the price includes no insurance. For quad bikes, diving and parasailing, sort out travel insurance that covers the activity before you go.
